The Race of the Santas & Lighting of Breckenridge

The Race of the Santas & Lighting of Breckenridge

Kick-off the season in style on historic Main Street in Breckenridge

The holiday spirit hits full throttle when the Town turns into a winter wonderland, and this year’s event isn’t one to miss. On Saturday, December 6 2025, hundreds of Santas dash down the snow-dusty streets, pups dress up for the parade, and as dusk falls, the trees and town light up with hundreds of thousands of twinkling lights.

Why you’ll love it

  • A fun-filled, family-friendly tradition that brings local culture, mountain charm, and festive vibes together.

  • Whether you’re racing, cheering, or simply strolling Main Street with a hot cocoa in hand, there’s no wrong way to join in.

  • It’s a great excuse to plan a visit to Breckenridge, experience the mountains pre-ski season, and capture some magical evening photos.

Here’s the timeline so you can plan when to arrive, where to be, and which moments you absolutely don’t want to miss:

ro Tips for Attending

  • Arrive early: Parking downtown fills fast, and Main Street will be closed/limited during the event windows.

  • Dress warmly (layer up!)—even the brief run down Main Street counts as part of the festive fun.

  • Bring your pup or bring a friend: The Dog Parade and the general loveliness of the event make it perfect for friends, families, or your four-legged best buddy.

  • Capture the moment: The lighting of Breckenridge creates perfect photo ops—golden lights, snowy streets, Santa suits.

  • Stay late: After the run, the lights stay up all winter long. So if you’re already in town, consider grabbing dinner or drinks afterward and savoring the vibe.

Why it fits into the mountain lifestyle

As someone who lives and works in Summit County, the Race of the Santas & Lighting of Breckenridge hits the sweet spot of what I believe real estate isn’t just about homes, it's about place, community and living the lifestyle you love. Whether you’re considering buying a second home here, planning to move full-time, or simply wanting a getaway to experience the mountain magic, this event is part of what makes this region truly special.

If you’re thinking about making a move in Summit County, whether before ski season or in the new year, let’s connect. I’d love to help you find a home that complements this kind of local magic.
